We often start off the year with the best of intentions. The gym membership that we continue to pay for which only gets used till mid-February (because it rained when you were due to go) or the dry January pledge that we consign to the past the second Saturday of the year (It would be a waste not to drink it after all).
However, there are some new year’s resolutions that we could all keep to if we planned them out and made them easier. Here I’m going to tell you how with 5 small steps you can make 2023 your best hair year EVER!
Drink more
With over 55% of our bodies making up water, increasing our intake of water is one of the best things we could ever do for our body. We have been told for years, about the positive impact that water can have on our skin, but did you know that it also has a massive impact on your hair and scalp? Drinking more water can help reduce problems like dry scalp or dandruff and lead to healthier, stronger hair too.
Top Tip: Use a refillable water bottle to cut down on environmental waste and fill it up throughout the day.
Plan the year
When we take out a gym membership, we always have the intention of visiting 3-4 times per week for the whole year. This is going to be ‘our year’, we tell ourselves. But as I mentioned earlier, sometime around February, the gym gets quieter as more and more people stay at home. If we had those gym dates booked in our diaries and made that a scheduled task rather than a ‘would like to’ goal, then you would be more likely to achieve it. This is the same principle as your regular hair appointment. You know that you are going to need your hair cut/coloured, so you may as well schedule your appointments so that you know that it’s going to happen at a time that is convenient for you.
Top Tip: If you schedule your appointment for every 6-8 weeks, that’s only 6-7 appointments you need to make for the whole year. Book online today or speak to a member of our reception team in the salon.
Does it really cost more?
Salon-based products for you to use at home normally cost a little more, however, they also tend to be made slightly differently. The products we use in the salon on your hair are all very concentrated, have different ingredients and need to be used in a different way from how you may be used to using your usual products. We’ve all seen the adverts of someone having a shower where they use a huge handful of shampoo and now their hair is a mountain of bubbles. It looks very nice but is probably costing a fortune in shampoo. The amount of product you need to use is generally a lot less than you think and you may be rinsing your money down the drain.
Top Tip: Next time you are in the salon, ask your CoCo’s stylist what their recommendation is for your hair if you were to try just one new product. Our stylists LOVE teaching you how to manage your hair and how to use our products more effectively. You may be pleasantly surprised to see how long the salon products last and how amazing your hair looks too.
Ask us for help
Throughout the year, I constantly overhear clients saying to their stylist ‘oh, I love how you’ve done your hair today,’ to which the stylist typically replies, ‘oh I just quickly did this 5 mins ago, it didn’t really take very long’. Sound familiar?
All our stylists love doing hair, but what we REALLY LOVE is teaching you how to do your hair. We love to solve problems and to help you.
Top Tip: Tell your stylist the worst thing about your hair next you are in the salon and ask for their recommendation on how to fix that.
Be kind
We all tend to start the new year with aims of achieving specific targets and then we beat ourselves with a stick if we don’t reach them all. We need to ensure that we can be kind to ourselves and each other whether we achieve our goals or not. Sometimes it’s just about moving closer to a goal rather than smashing the goal entirely.
From all the team at CoCo’s, we would like you to know that we are always here to help in any way we can. From expert advice to a friendly chat when you pop in and see us.
